I'm pretty sure I remember this island from crusing this area with Kevin Fetterly in his brother's boat a year before. It is just north of the little town we visited for coffee and snacks before heading back to his cabin. (from the train, 2001)

I'm writing from Seattle looking out over the industrial Duwamish having just finished a call with Thompson who was on an island in the south sound as we spoke. I've been there by boat once, I told him, and then struggled to remember names. Steilacoom.

We tied up next to the ferry terminal and hiked up the hill to Kevin's favorite ice cream shop. I can't remember what flavor but I remember taking a picture of the boat. I can see the composition in my head. I look for the picture but only find one close.

I've worked in Seattle and traveled there by train and car. Southbound interstate traffic would finally clear by DuPont. I would stop to fill mug and tank. Steilacoom road. I remember the picture of the boat at pier.
